The Village Development Committee Sihokhor is situated 8 km. to the west of Taulihawa the district headquarters bordering India in the south. It is one of the least developed VDCs in Kapilvastu district. Infact, the whole Kapilvastu district itself has fallen aback in the pace of equitable and sustainable development due to lack of infrastructures for development, wide spread illiteracy as well as abject poverty while it has its own unique culture and history of being the ancient Kingdom of Lord Buddha. This VDC has the lowest literacy rate 13 percent in the district.
Sihokhor VDC has a total number of 675 households. The ethnic composition consists of Brahim, Kshetri, Aahir, Kori, Pasi, Harijan, Muraw, Chaudhari and of them Raidas, Pasi, Kori and Harijan belong to poor, under privileged and socially excluded low class (Oppressed, downtrodden) people.
Mostly these poor, underprivileged, marginalized and disadvantaged people are deprived of most basic needs of simple survival. This VDC has only one school. Very few families have their own hand pumps. Most of these poor people in Sihokhor VDC use unsafe river water for drinking, cooking and other purposes which cause them to suffer from several diseases and health hazards year round.
A few tubewells have been recorded with arsenic level over 5.23% which is harmful for drinking and cooking according to the survey conducted by District water supply system in cooperation with UNICEF. |
