Unfortunately when two unidentified motorbike riders shot dead Mr.Abdul Moid Khan, an influential Muslim leader, social reformer, the president of Nepal Family Planning Association district chapter and the acting chief of the Democratic Madhesi Front Nepal, a political organization struggling for the peace, prosperity and rights of the Madhesi people in the Terai (plain area) in the southern belt of Nepal, a fierce riot broke out in Kapilvastu district with faster effects in several neighboring districts in Nepal.
This ever worst riot that broke out in the district after the assassination of Mr. Khan on 16 September 2007 resulted in ethnic violence that caused a great loss of lives and infrastructures.
Brief Information on the loss of lives and infrastructures:( Based on the most recent information)
Number of people internally displaced: 6000 Number of children affected: 1500 (Out of total displaced 6000) Number of the people killed in the riot: 25 ( But the public estimate is over 31) Number of the wounded: 56 Number of school burnt: 01 Number of the houese burnt: 500 (Based on the most recent information) Number of the Vehicles (truck/buses) burnt: 161 Number of people taking shelters in near by Indian towns: 1200 Apart from the above figures several women have been brutally raped and their breasts and genitals were cut off. The humanitarian relief organizations, human rights, NGO Activists, Media, social workers and UN Agencies have been actively involved in the relief operations here in the district. As a very under resourced small organization we are also trying our best to support some orphaned children and women victims and the indigenous and the Dalits with food , accommodation and free schooling at our Universal Peace Education School with support from KAPINCE-NEPAL in Taulihawa Kapilvastu.
Unfortunately the Kapilvastu violence has done worst damage to human lives and properties in Kapilvastu and neighboring districts and the situation is still tense, we would hereby like to request the national and international humanitarian relief and development organizations for their support in the participation in the relief operation and rehabilitation of the victims in the following areas:
• School dress, warm clothes, school lunch, stationery for the children affected by the violence • Sponsoring / Foster parenthood • Skill development, Income generation training for women victims towards their rehabilitation
